Paying it forward....Hold THAT DOOR! PDF Print E-mail

So I am finally getting back to writing...it's been a while....sorry.

All of this is up for discussion, merely that. Know me as a regular logical person

Most of you know the polite thing to do over in America, hold the door for someone, especially for a lady or old person. Hold it open for the next person if they are near enough that you only have to wait a few seconds...Say "Thank You" To the person who holds the door. If they leave it for you, gladly take hold of the door as the holder relinquishes the door to you...Now that is not to say that all Americans or westerners do this, and in fact I have known many to be more rude...

When I got to Hong Kong, I noticed something that many foreigners do. People do not hold the door here. Man,....if you hold the door, it could be hours before you get through that door, because people will just flow through that door like running water. No thank you, no look in the eye or smile, no take the door from you. You'll feel like an idiot. Sometimes if you let go at the right moment, you could could slam one right in somebody's face! Ouch!

Anyways, it puts the dillema out there, to hold or not to hold. Or even more so, to change your ways, to not be polite(as you might deem this as polite) or to hold steady. Many foreigners when they come here just stop doing it. They just say forget about it. Not even for ladies do they do this...I've at least seen many a British guy do this, although, perhaps this custom is more American...Not sure. I say though, yes when in rome do as the romans do, but for somethings...hold your ground.

Stay firm in your beliefs as to how you think you should treat others...even in the smallest minute way...because perhaps...just perhaps, one small gesture, will send a shockwave throughout the world. That one moment of kindness or whatever you may call it will change 1 person, which will then change the many people that that person encounters. And those people will change people that they encounter....and so on.

Take this idea and magnify it. Just try it in all you do. You never know...But do good with it...because for every good deed that has a positive impact, there is an equally bad deed that can send this same ripple...

Anyways, gonna leave it at this: Make Good Waves my Friends...
